Week 2 of didactics of English I

Week 2 - Review

January 30th/ February 1st

During this week we had a small review of two important methods of didactics or teaching, we discussed the points of the direct method and the grammar-translation method. Something curious about these methods is that one is known as the natural method and is often used in teaching foreign languages since this method is the closest that every human being has access to learning a language when he/she is born (DM).

To better understand this, we had 3 questions:

  • What is your way of learning grammar?
  • How do you practice your listening skills?
  • How important are colorful visual aids for you? (In the learning process)

Questions helped us understand that each person has different learning and approaches when learning something new, in this case, a language. It is important to highlight that the grammar translation method is deductively or deductively and with more rules therefore the direct method is more effective when you start learning a new language.
